Discover Rivers and Lakes in #MyManistee!Paddling Adventure Abounds
From casual floats to overnight adventures, the rivers and lakes of Manistee County offer year-round access for exploring waterways of our region.

Big Manistee
With open water year-round on the Big Manistee River, paddling adventure abounds in all seasons, from all access points. Those with a bit more paddling experience, may consider planning a multiple day trip, launching at Hodenpyl Dam in the northeast corner of our county and following it down as far as the M-55 crossing in Wexford County. No matter the scale of adventure you seek, you won’t be disappointed by the natural beauty of this scenic northern Michigan waterway.
This river is wide and smooth flowing, making it a great choice for paddling with the family. You will also find an abundance of rope swings and great sand bars to stop and socialize. Those looking for a lazy float down the river, tube the Hodenpyl Dam to Red Bridge access.

Pine River
Quick, tight and loaded with white water, the Pine River is Manistee County’s fastest flowing river and is not for the novice paddler. If you are an adventure paddler looking for a challenge, visit the lower stretches of the Pine after a significant rainfall to take on some of the only white-water rapids in Michigan.
This river is frequented by expert paddlers throughout the season, however, the early spring thaw attracts many from around the Midwest as this is the time of year when the river is at its swiftest current.
