Big-M Recreation Area
Part of the Manistee National Forest (USFS)
Enjoy 40+ miles of mountain biking trails carved out of the Manistee National Forest. This well-marked, loop trail system sweeps through canopied hardwoods, which connects with the North Country Trail system. The challenging terrain of this excellent biking and cross country skiing destination offers an adventure for many experience levels, as it is divided into 4 segments of varied difficulty. The varied elevations along rolling wooded trails makes this trail system a popular year round destination for outdoor adventurers.
Mountain Biking
- 25-miles of single track biking trails
- One-way trails directed clock-wise (clock-wise)
- Some challenging sandy climbs
- Open from April to September
Cross-Country Skiing
- 18-miles of groomed trails
- Parking lot is maintain throughout winter months
- Chalet available for skiers
Winter Fat Tire Biking
- 25-miles of groomed single track biking trails
- One-way trails directed clock-wise (clock-wise)
- Three levels of difficulty starting at the Big-M shelter house
- Groomed throughout the winter season using our new groomer
Hiking
- Although primarily used by mountain bikers, trails are open for hiking
- Adjacent to the North Country Trail
- Dogs allowed on leash
