Copemish

Nicknamed "Beech City," Copemish was the first incorporated village in Manistee County. Although there were no horses (a two day walk to the grocery store) and plenty of agricultural problems, this area began to boom with the lumber industry. With hotels, stores and 3 major railroads, Copemish grew in numbers to reach about 1000 people between the years of 1888 and 1891.

Now, this small historical community houses about 100 permanent residents and just a few businesses. Looking for a great deal? The Copemish Flea Market is a major attraction and a bargain hunters dream each weekend throughout the summer. Find that perfect treasure and a friendly smile on your journey to Copemish and throughout Manistee County.

This tiny rural community is found in the northeast corner of Manistee County on M-115, east of Bear Lake.
